Spring Forward

Why Hello there! Yes, I’ve had a brief lapse from my blogs due to Winter hibernation! Lol I love hibernating from everything during the winter months. My break from the year I guess. But I have you know I’ve not skipped a beat from personal training, and me working out. Nope, love working out buddie! I actually have gotten a little bigger and more muscular too. Excited about that!

During my hibernation phase, I had a little scare back in January. I had mild discomfort around my heart area. Discovered my heart wasn’t the problem.

The doctors said my heart was strong as an ox. My arteries are narrow, and hard for blood to flow through smoothly because of past bad habits and lifestyle. I wasn’t living the healthiest lifestyle the last half of last year either. I had been taking my health and “fit” physique for granted, thinking just because I look and feel fit, that I can do whatever I want to do…LOL…nope. I’m not excluded. So this woke me up and for last few months I’ve been what they call, “reversing” heart disease symptoms.

I’ve been focusing on new lifestyle changes for me. Doing ok now….I have to remain focused on that. And my favorite season of the year “spring” is here, so I’m ready for the year now. Let’s “spring” into motion shall we?

Common Misconceptions, Do’s and Don’ts

Hi intensity, consistency are all topics I want to share before I get into the exciting part of training, which is exercising, regiments, techniques. So, starting off with common misconceptions. If you’re just beginning , please don’t fall into “what supplement is going to make me loose weight or what supplement is going to make me big?”- and hoping this is going to fix everything. You take it, and wait for it to magically give you immediate results!!! Maybe workout a couple days a week.

I remember a year after high school, my athletic neighbor and I would eat, lift weights together, run together, u know, showing off our hard work. A freshman in high school, had been watching us for a while. We ran by him while he was cutting grass one hot summer day. He asked us , “What’s the secret guys??” We asked him what exactly what he was wanting to accomplish. He was an average size guy, kinda like me and my neighbor were. He wanted to big and muscular. I told him to start off with some protein weight gainer powder. He took our advice of course. Now mind you, back then, stuff was expensive and weight gainer protein powder had lots of calories back in those days.

Well, I had moved to the east coast with my Dad that summer. I came back to visit and pick up some stuff the next summer and I saw him cutting grass again, except he had blown up 5 times over! He was as big as a house! I felt so bad. He admitted he wasn’t really working out. He said he wanted the size and he got it, and said he just gave up. He wasn’t into the training part of it at all. My point here is, you have to put the work into it also. Sure , supplements are a game changer. That’s why they call them supplements, cause it supplements our diets and training. But you have to train vigorously, and be intense and consistent. No such thing as overnight success. No pain, no gain, simple as that.

Ok, Some Do’s and Don’ts.

Under-training. Not good folks. I see it all the time. People will literally walk into a gym, spend more time getting the song in their headphones situated, than actually working out. They end up spending maybe 10-15 minutes doing something, and then walking out??..huh?...of course any workout is better than no workout, yes, but come on. You cannot cut corners. No short-cuts folks.

A few months ago, I bought some trimmers for my face, body, etc. I called myself being cheap by spending only a couple dollars on it. Come to find out, they didn’t cut!!..lol..wow, imagine that. I later bought some coffee that day. Not my normal coffee, cause I pay too much for the coffee that I usually buy. It tastes good, but really too expensive. I brew this cheaper coffee and it tasted like garbage. Point being, …you get what you pay for!!. Buy cheap shoes, they fall apart quick. Go out and get a cheap old hooptie car?...U already know…it breaks down.

This is why I love working out so much, because you’re pretty much in control. You get what you put in. You are your own boss. Also, with very little mistakes. No other things in life, jobs, sports, relationships, etc. can you do something, that your basically in control! The only mistake you can do in “working out” is not doing what your supposed to do! So….. Let’s hold ourselves accountable for our own actions. Let’s get it in!!.. Until next time, Get fit, and Stay fit
